It's Back to School Time Again-Does Your Child Have Health Care Coverage
It's time to get ready for Back-to-School! Unfortunately more than 9 million children in the U.S. are living without health care coverage. Over half of those kids without health care coverage are eligible for coverage assistance but are not enrolled.
Luckily the Coalition's Project Connect Advocate, Ann Walker, is here to help connect families with health insurance coverage for their children through the FAMIS program.
Children who have health care coverage are better prepared to learn in school. A recent study showed that students who lack health care coverage miss more school days, which can have a negative impact on intellectual development and educational achievement.
For parents whose children choose to be active in extracurricular activities such as school sports, clubs, and band, often need medical insurance before they can even try out and be involved in any of these activities. Many of the schools offer some form of medical coverage however they only cover situations that occur during the school day and not after school when the extracurricular activities take place.
For questions regarding FAMIS and how to get your child signed up, please call Ann Walker at 276-732-0509 or email her at awalker@healthycommunitymhc.org.

Water therapy is a common recommendation for patients with severe aches and pains. Water therapy however is expensive and patients often cannot afford it. Water aerobics through the FREE Family Aerobics Program offers an affordable alternative.
