Women's HealthNational Women's Health Week/ WOMANS ChallengeWomen’s health week marks the “kick-off” of the WOMAN Challenge. The nationwide initiative encourages women to make their health a top priority and to take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life. During the week, the Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness will have a multitude of events to encourage and educate women about the steps that they can take to improve their overall health. Events throughout the National Women's Health Week: Suppers Made Simple is a 4 part healthy cooking class series that will be offered at PHCC School of Craft and Design. Each class will be from 9:00am-12:00pm on Saturdays. The first of the four class series will be Saturday May 17th. Please contact Diane Sawyer at 276-956-2983 ext 301 to register, but hurry space is limited! Free Healthy Recipes, Saturday May 17th, the Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness will be handing out Free Healthy Recipes at the Farmer’s Market. This particular Saturday is “Spring Greens” day so the Coalition will have healthy recipes that will complement the theme and assist in ideas of how to serve these delicious vegetables. Free Health Screenings: Aerobics "JAM" Session: Thursday, May 15, 2008, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Spencer Penn Centre. Come out and join all of the HCI aerobics instructors for 15 minute segments of your favorite workout technique including sculpt, abs, cardio, strength training, and bass exercises. Click here for more information. The WOMAN Challenge is an eight week physical activity challenge for better health that begins May 11 and ends on July 5. The Challenge is geared toward getting women and girls Out Moving Across the Nation and encourages them to set and achieve personal activity goals appropriate for their lifestyles, such as walking 10,000 steps each day or getting 30 minutes of moderate daily exercise. You can participate in the Challenge as an individual or as part of a team.; either way you can register online at www.womenshealth.gov/woman, to receive promotional materials, choose 1 of 6 virtual routes across the United States, to track your progress during the Challenge, and to receive motivational emails with useful health information to help you along your journey.
